This project did not start out as a Theater. It was built as a Game-room and
where the screen is now was meant to be a built in cabinet for a big screen TV.
At the last minute the client decided to install a Theater. We went to work
planning the projector location and screen size around the existing bar and
walls. With a little planning we framed in a screen wall that allowed us to hide
the subwoofer cabinet and front speakers all behind the screen and custom
fabrics. We then worked with the builder and Interior Designer to flatten the
acoustics in the room and to add padded walls in strategic locations and a wall
of drapes in the other to block out the light. This theater valued at under
$40,000 dollars is still one of my favorites. It had great speaker placement, the
projector was quiet and hidden and the room was truly comfortable and great
for a party. With good design and planning it does not take a million dollars to
have a good room. Margaritas, a comfortable couch and a great room what
else is there....
Custom Fabric Wall in the primary
reflection zone helped decrease
reflections while increasing
realism.
By working the projector into the
bar we reduce the noise from the
projector as well as increase the
rooms visual appeal.
This custom hidden fabric door
allowed to client to access a
media library storage area as
well as the audio video equipment.

By bringing the screen wall forward we were able to put the projector
in the bar. Also we had a simple place to put all the front speakers and
the subwoofer. The subwoofer shown here is made by California Audio
Technologies. At 88" tall and 5.25" deep and 14.25" wide it is a real
subwoofer in a cabinet unlike most in-wall subwoofers and it is
completely concealed. Similarly the front left, right and center speaker
are located in the wall directly behind the screen centered on the
seating height.
